The event took place on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the KAAF Auditorium, situated within the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. This celebration was not just an academic gathering but a heartfelt tribute to a scholar who has left an indelible mark on the field of Library and Information Science.

    The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, who was represented by Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, Dean of the Faculty of Education. In his opening speech, Professor Adegbesan highlighted the immense contributions of Professor Elaturoti to Library and Information Science, particularly his influence on modern educational methodologies. He emphasized that Professor Elaturoti’s work has been pivotal in shaping the academic landscape, both within the university and beyond.

    Chief Kola Karim, the Agbaoye of Ibadanland, served as the Chief Launcher for the occasion, adding a touch of prestige to the event.

    The launch was graced by several notable figures, including:

    • Chief Saheed Ladele, the Baameko of Ibadanland
    • Chief Adeyemi Aramide, the Otun Atunluse of Ibadanland, represented by Honourable Abudu Kolawole
    • Honourable Dr. Wale Okediran, a respected poet, author, politician, and medical doctor
    • Dr. Tony Marinho, an acclaimed poet, author, activist, and medical doctor

    Although some distinguished guests such as Honourable Mrs. ‘Wumi Oladeji, Chief Gboyega Adegoke (the Ajia Balogun of Ibadanland), and Chief Abayomi Odunowo were unable to attend, their support for the Festschrift launch was unmistakable.

    During the event, each special guest shared personal stories and reflections on Professor Elaturoti’s significant impact on their careers and lives. Their words painted a picture of a mentor, leader, and scholar whose influence has reached far beyond the academic community.

    The Festschrift, titled “Contemporary Issues in Library and Information Science Education, Research, and Practice,” is presented in two volumes. Volume 1, which features 27 scholarly articles, was reviewed by Dr. Modupe Aduke Aboyade, the University Librarian at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. She commended the contributors for their scholarly rigor and the innovative approaches they brought to the field. Volume 2, containing 30 articles, was reviewed by Professor Adeyinka Tella, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Ilorin. Professor Tella emphasized the practical applications of the research and its potential to influence future studies in the discipline.

    The event was attended by former Deans of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ibadan, including Professors Bunmi Alegbeleye, Olawale Morohunkola, M. K. Akinsola, and Julius Ademokoya. Their presence highlighted the respect and admiration held for Professor Elaturoti, a former Dean of the Faculty himself.
