    Fellowship Benefits

    Eligibility Requirements

    To be eligible for the United Nations Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Nationality: Must be a national of a member state of the Economic Commission for Africa.
    • Educational Qualifications: Must have graduated before July 1, 2024, with a master’s degree, doctorate, or equivalent qualification.
    • Thematic Interest: Should have an interest in one or more of the identified thematic areas.
    • Project Work: Selected candidates will work on predefined projects within the mentoring Division, Sub-Regional Office, or ECA Centres.
    • Meeting Participation: For professional exposure, you must participate in national, regional, or international meetings.
    • Research Presentation: Required to submit and present a peer-reviewed research paper at the end of the assignment.
    • Alumni Engagement: Will join an alumni association of ECA Fellows and become a member of the international development “community of practice.”

    • Health Coverage: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award.
    • English Language Training: Pre-course English (PCE) fees, if necessary, for training both within the country and in Australia.
    • Academic Support:  Possible supplementary academic support to aid in scholar success.
    • Fieldwork: For certain research programs, fieldwork expenses may be covered for one economy class airfare to the scholar’s home country or within Australia.

    *Award Requirements:**

    • Contract Agreement: Recipients must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, agreeing to the scholarship conditions.
    • Post-Study Obligation:** Scholars are required to leave Australia for at least two years after completing their scholarship. Non-compliance will result in a debt for the total cost of the scholarship.
