In his narrative, Ayansewa Adedeji , Doctoral Student, Florida State University, USA, shares a glimpse of his arduous but triumphant scholarship journey, beginning in 2019. Despite countless rejections over four years, he persevered through faith, persistence, and self-improvement. Inspired by mentors like Dr. Kelechukwu Onwukamike and Dr. Victor Agboga, Ayansewa continuously enhanced his profile and refused to settle for partial funding. His relentless efforts culminated in receiving five fully funded scholarships in 2024, including the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship, which he ultimately declined for a more fitting opportunity at Florida State University. Ayansewa’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, self-belief, and divine trust, serving as an encouragement for others to persist in their dreams despite setbacks.

I woke up this morning and felt like encouraging someone by sharing just a “tip” of my scholarship journey. I started applying for prestigious scholarships in 2019. I would have stated the number of rejections I got between 2019 – 2023 but I already lost count 😅😅. I encouraged myself in the Lord. Persistence, tolerance, and diligence played out. I continued with the energy of “work in process” and “inching forward” taught by amiable Doc, Kelechukwu Onwukamike (Dr. rer. nat.) (Ph.D). Posts of several people too numerous to mention also encouraged me. I appreciate the posts of Dr. Victor Agboga including his YouTube channel.
I cried all the time I got rejections😭😭 but I encouraged myself. One of the key things that played out was that I kept improving on myself and my profile, even with tons of rejections. I was intentional!
I also never settled for less. I got lots of partial funding before 2024 but felt “more is better than less” 🤣🤣🤣
Guess what? I got FIVE fully funded scholarships just in 2024. I am even supposed to resume at a top UK university through the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarships by September 2024. My Award Letter has already been sent but I had to reject it 🤔 . This is a scholarship that I have been craving since 2019. Rejecting it was one of my toughest decisions in 2024 😑 .
I also got fully funded offers from top universities in the United States and rejected all except my first choice Florida State University – A university close to my heart 😍 .
This post is not for self-aggrandizement but to encourage someone that dreams come true. Rejections are real, and your acceptance is also real. Work on yourself, be more, do more, and trust God in all you do. 🙏 .
Have a great week!
