About the Role
The Earlham Institute’s High-Resolution Microbiomics group, led by Dr. Quince, is seeking a Research Scientist to develop mathematical models for microbial communities. This position involves creating predictive, mechanistic models integrating data such as abundances, metabolites, and expression levels. Techniques include dynamical systems (ODEs and SDEs), metabolic modeling, and numerical optimization (linear programming, Bayesian statistics, machine learning).
Ideal Candidate
Candidates should have:
- A PhD in mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, statistics, or a related field with strong mathematical modeling skills, or a Masters in a quantitative subject with exceptional experience.
- Proficiency in software programming (e.g., R, Python, C/C++) and understanding of calculus and statistics.
- Desirable skills: command line bioinformatics, Bayesian statistics, knowledge of microbial communities, and metabolism.
Candidates with substantial experience may qualify for the Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist role.
Additional Information
- Salary:** £35,300 to £43,750 for SC6 level; £43,550 – £54,900 for SC5 level.
- Contract:** Full-time, three-year position.
- Visa:** Eligible for visa application.
