Fellowship Overview

The United Nations Economic Commission Fellowship provides a one-off settling-in grant of USD 3,000 and a monthly stipend of USD 3,000 for the duration of the fellowship. This program is designed to support the development of young professionals in academia, the public sector, or international development.

Fellowship Benefits

Selected Fellows will receive:

  • A one-off settling-in grant of USD 3,000 for those recruited from outside the duty station.
  • A monthly stipend of USD 3,000 for the duration of the fellowship.
  • An initial fellowship period of 6 months, with the possibility of a 6-month extension.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the United Nations Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
  • Nationality: Must be a national of a member state of the Economic Commission for Africa.
  • Educational Qualifications: Must have graduated before July 1, 2024, with a master’s degree, doctorate, or equivalent qualification.
  • Thematic Interest: Should have an interest in one or more of the identified thematic areas.
  • Project Work: Selected candidates will work on predefined projects within the mentoring Division, Sub-Regional Office, or ECA Centres.
  • Meeting Participation: For professional exposure, you must participate in national, regional, or international meetings.
  • Research Presentation: Required to submit and present a peer-reviewed research paper at the end of the assignment.
  • Alumni Engagement: Will join an alumni association of ECA Fellows and become a member of the international development “community of practice.”

  3. Submit an Administrative Profile (AP) and the following documents as PDF attachments:
    • UN Administrative Profile (AP) in PDF format, including a motivation statement (cover letter).
  4. Create an AP by signing up for an account at UN Inspira.
